Metal Stamp Press?
Does anyone have any ideas on what this was used for?
I have tried to research but came up empty.
The parts and pieces have part number that correlate with the name stamped on the stand
"The Bond Mach & tool Works N.Y."
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Renee

That is a rolling mill. The ones that size were mostly used for soft and precious metals used by jewlers and jewelry makers.

They still make and sell new ones today, usually smaller and more of a benchtop model, but the same thing. In picture number one, the roller on the left is for thinning out flat stocks and the one on the right is for stretching out wire to a thinner gauge. The metal would have been fed in from the side that is shown in picture two.

That one is definitly and old bird, not much of a market for those, as most of the people that need or want one have one. The one that you are showing is most definitly late-19th century. I have no earthly need for one, but clean it up and it sure would look nice in the basement though.

I got this 1853 version at a yard sale, figured I could clean some copper wire with it ---I too found that it was for mostly working soft metals like silver ---mine has some nice details in the construction, the threads are special, not tapered, but not quite acme ---even the carrige bolts to mount it to the bench.
