A local is waiting for delivery of a Merc pickup that was re-engined
with an SBC, but, the original engine is included.
He is not sure if it is the factory engine and he has no plans to re-install.

It was offered to me,but what should identify it as a factory Merc ???

Not all Merc truck motors are 4", that's only true on Merc cars. I know, I own a Merc truck with its original motor. Also, if it is a Merc truck, the heads should say "Made in Canada". Often there is a plate attached near the distributor that may say something about the motor.

I don't think that the Canadian Mercury pickups had 4" Merc engines. I believe that they were the same as the Ford trucks with just some badging changes.

From what I have researched, and from what I have seen on the M68 truck in my yard, they just had the basic Ford engine. Not the Merc.

The merc engine( from Canada) will also have the breather/ oil fill located on the right front of the intake, not in the rear.
