Need rear sump Mercury pan to put 8ba block into '37. (Don't want to use truck pan).
Here is a link that shows the Mercury pan I need.

The pan on the right of pictures 26, 27 and 28 show three views. (Note the three studs used to tie the pan to the starter plate). The matching starter plate is shown in picture 5, far right.

Thanks, Howard

Picked up a pan today. Looks pretty good. Will know more after I get it cleaned up. Thanks to all who looked at their stash.

Pan didn't work out!! Once cleaned it showed several brass repairs and I found the pan rail wasn't flat because it had set in water and eroded the metal.

Bottom line; I still need a good pan and matching starter plate if poosible.
Thanks to all,
Howard

I have a pan I believe came off a 50 Merc that matches the one in picture but it doesn't have the small bracket attached at the back of pan as shown in the picture. Have not ever seen that bent type starter plate either. Are you sure this was the common arrangement for Mercs?

Yes Barn Junk, as far as I know there was two pans in this era that had brackets on pan that aligned with the starter plate. One was the set-up used on the the 48-51 (?) Light trucks. On the truck the pan had a rear sump that tapered toward the front. The bracket that ties to the starter plate is on the back of the pan (hard to see in the picture). (See pictures 24 & 25 in link above). I believe this bracket has female threads that align with the started plate.
The pan used on the 49-early51 Mercury has a rear sump with the front of the sump being more vertical. This pan has a flat reinforcing plate welded to the bottom of the pan with three 3/8-24 threaded studs that would face the ground when installed. The starter plate that matches this pan has an angled (90 deg.) piece, spot welded to it, with three holes that match up with studs on the pan. Each of these pans have been used to install the later (49-53) engines in the early (pre-48). There have been instances where the truck pan has interfered with the tie rod and required some modification. The Mercury pan gives ample clearence.
I am putting a late engine in a 37 and these are the last pieces I need.
Any help appreciated. Thanks,
Howard

I've had several replies and want to thank those who contacted me. However I'm looking for a good pan without dents or holes. I've had offers for pans that won't work for me. All are appreciated.
The pan I want was used on the '49-early'51 Mercury cars. There was also a unique starter plate and oil pump pick-up. We have the pick-up and there may be a starter plate available. I have yet to find a pan in good shape.
Please have another look guys. THANKS,
Howard
