mercury frames 41-47

The Mercury frames are 4 inches longer. The Ford and Mercury bodies are the same in these years. I have an extra Mercury and Ford frame. I can check from the firewall back. I do believe they need to be the same. There is a plate bolted on the bottom for the wishbone ball. That plate is positioned four inches forward in comparison to the Ford frame.
 
I had a 1946 Merc frame... As 26Lakes says, there is a plate to move the wishbone ball forwars 4"... There are two sets of holes for the front crossmember, the Ford uses the rear set, the Merc uses the front set- moving the crossmember forward the 4"...

So, I think that the frame rails are the same... I still have the Merc steering box and column, It MAY be that it's the 4" longer, If someone is interested, and posts or pms, I would measure it to see...

I'm trying not to sound like I know ALL, this was just my experience with ONE frame...

1941 through 1948 were all 118 inch displacement. I think the 1941 frame was a one year only type since it still used the fan on the crankshaft with all the frontal changes for clearance but 2 inches longer than the 39 thru 40 Merc frames. I'm pretty sure that the Mercury rails were 4 inches longer in the 42 to 48 range than the Fords were in the same years even though the crossmembers may indicate placement similarities between Ford & Merc. The front kick up in the rails needs to be checked too to be certain it is in the same place as a Ford. Very few changes were made in the Mercury frames from 42 thru 48.

That 4-in that is mentioned, is from the firewall forward. So, no, the frames are not the same, as 4-in is added to the front. There is the wishbone 'plate' already mentioned, and also 4-in to move the motor-mount rearward from the front crossmember. Also, not part of this thread, the steering column is longer for the Merc, to compensate for the 4-in. And, obviously the front fenders & hood are 4-in longer on the Merc.
Back to original question... no, wheelbase not the same, and no, from front crossmember back, not the same (4-in). But, from firewall back, frames are the same. JMO
 
I know that the (ford frame) is not the same, but can I make a 47 merc chassis work under a 41, by triming the front frame horn?? so 41 -47 wheel base is the same 118in ?? thanks guys for the help.
