Melted a bearing

That was my thoughts on crossed oil feeds. Easy to do , but major damage. I myself have done it but it was just a dry test on the shop floor for a minute for oil pressure and we had none then soon had it sorted. Not to be a doomsayer but The engine I spoke of was built but a reputable builder and then went to a shop to be installed in the car with the filter and accessories etc. the shop assumed they had oil pressure which they did at the gauge only and did some road testing . The customer came to pick it up and it seized before he got out the door basically . Unfortunately all rotating assemblies were toast , scat crank ,ross pistons isky cam , lifters and so on. I hope the ford gods are kinder to you.

Make a note to yourself

All oil filters flow from the outside inward yours appears the victim of reversed lines. If they were reversed the flow would try and close the anti drain valve and result in elevated oil pressure upstream of the filter.

Double check to confirm.

Thank you all. Will have the crank inspected and the block maged to ensure no further damage has been done.

and to top it all not only did I know better, but the filter housing is marked "in" - "out"

Your .083" oversize pistons are/were a common size in the aftermarket, used in engines with factory sleeves after the sleeves were removed. No rebore was needed, just remove the sleeve, hone the cylinder, and drop the pistons in. This was very common on the 9N, 2N, and 8N tractor engines, which were essentially 1/2 of the 239 V8 (pistons and some other parts were identical). I used to get them from NAPA.

At least you now know the culprit and can admit it . So best of luck in fixing the ills. It's a shame the excitement of a new build was stolen from you so soon.
Thankfully you have the resolve to man up and move forward albeit a few dollars down. May the flathead gods be with you.

Interesting tidbit on the .083 oversize Pistons. EGGE quoted $204 for a set of stock 4 ring .083 pistons for me. I thought that was reasonable.
