Here are some pictures of the fuel pump on my Y-Block. I have 2 questions. 1. can any one tell me the original application for this single action pump. and is it common? 2. is it supposed to have a fuel filter in the sediment bowl? ok, so maybe it is 3 questions. any information is appreciated. Thank You.---Jim

There's a filter screen in the bowl area. Fuel pumps for the Ford FE engines (352, 390, 428) also are a direct bolt on for the Y engines.

Here are two links w/ pictures to the closest looking ones found in a quick search. The applications are listed in each one.
It doesn't look like they have a filter element in the bowl. I believe there's a screen at the top of the bowl.

Here's another one for a HD truck (same as your oil pan) that looks like it has a filter in the bowl.

Thanks for the information on the applications guy's. Thanks Ted for the tip about the FE pumps being a bolt on, I may go with one that has the canister with a filter in it. I think I remember seeing those on FE engines.
