Mech brake lining question

Hey guys, I was chatting with a mate about which linings are better for fatory mech brakes fitted with floaters.

Which lining work better; the woven type or the other "moulded" type?

Any why?

Inquiring minds....:o

Thanx !!

On the instructions included with the floaters I installed on my '35, it said, USE ONLY MOLDED LININGS (implying do not use woven linings). See attaching pictures below. These are not Flathead Ted's floaters. I believe he says you can use woven linings with his floaters but his floaters are a much different design than the Thomas design.

I agree. Woven shoes skid your tires way too easily. Without floaters maybe, but no need to be so aggressive if you have floaters.

I installed floaters(from C&G) and the instructions did not specify which type to use. I relined the rear with molded and left the original woven in front. The car stops great but the rear brakes sound and feel a little rough.I remember in an earlier post that woven linings are a softer material and will wear quicker.A suggestion:Before you order new linings, check your shoes for length. My '36 has all long shoes,as opposed to short and long.

There are quiet a few choices when it comes to linings ,here are two examples you can use , both these are bonded (Glued on ).The advantage here is that if your drums a worn you make the linings thicker .On the tests we have done you get about 5% better grip with the woven ones .The grey material are soft in this example ,softer than the woven ones and would likely ware faster but still work ok we retain the square adjuster that helps if you are laying on the road .My choice with floaters is the woven ,you can get some noise with woven if you don't get the higher quality more expensive type ,when first fitted up frequent adjustments are needed then they settle down ,

thanks for the input fellas ; Ted, mine are woven atm, but see to go "away" real fast and need adjustment again. They have floaters installed at the front.

Either Im adjusting them wrong or the woven (copper colored) shoes are inferior.

Who sells the "good" ones?

Thx ;)
