McCullough Super Charger V/8 Ford

I believe mine is a 1937. As you can see I am adapting it to a 1952 flathead. Gary:D

Perfect example above of the Gusset that is a thick square piece..

Gary - going to send you a PM I'd like to give you a call if possible..

It looks like they increased the size of piping and water flow over the years. They show some with water connections at compressor housing and than some added pipes about the size of the radiator hoses at the top on the intake manifold. I wonder if this was to be some sort of after cooler?

I wonder what kind of temperatures are generated at the discharge of the compressor.

With out a sugnifent amount of boost I doubt that cooling would be necessary. It is my understanding that they prodice little or no boost at normal driving speeds and just a few lbs at hi revs. But they look nice.

I believe they develop around 4lbs at high revs. Whether this will give the advertised 124hp, who knows? But yep, cool as a cool thing.

This the one I had on my 40 for 10 yr's. Walt

Here's photo of Dave M. in OHIO, he has double crank pulleys and double water pump pulleys. Looks good on a flathead!!!!

A 3rd version of the 37/38 style gussets... do you know what number is on the plate on this one?
Or is this one modified to have the big gusset like Super Flat's cut out of the way to fit the earlier intake?
Looks like it would fit a 35/6 intake...

Zach

I've been looking for one of these for a while, finally found one! It's been sitting in an attic in St. Louis for 50 years, seems to be in decent shape. The model number is 78F85, serial number 1226. I believe the numbering usually starts with the year of manufacture (i.e. 37F85), so I'm a little confused about the "78." I thought it might be a unit for a '37 car that was made later in production?? It has a specially cast intake (not a stock unit, different mounting where the carb would go). It also has the pulley in back to put the generator on top of the head, which I believe is specific to the earlier applications (35,6,7).

I've heard John Erb is the guy to talk to about rebuilding, but I'm having trouble getting in touch with him. One of my dad's good friends rebuilds Auburn and Cord blowers, so I may send it his way for a look. The plan is to install it on my '36 Cabriolet once I get it rebuilt (assuming I can fit it under the hood).

Please let me know if I'm incorrect on any of my info or if you know anything more about the unit, there isn't a lot of info out there on these things!

Thats a 1938 unit... wondering if they goofed and put a 7 instead of a 3, or if some how, that's just the top of a 3 and the bottom scuffed off.
