Mating engine and trans 352 cruisomatic

My 352 was rebuilt and now i am mating it in my garage to the rebuilt cruisomatic. I made triple sure my torque converter was on all sets of splines and the trans slid right up with no gap so an unset tc shouldn't be the problem. My issue is that I can spin the engine only about to halfway around (using a breaking bar on the harmonic balancer). This is not allowing me to get to the last flywheel nut that hooks torque converter to the flywheel. Is this normal? if so how do I reach the last nut? I also tried it in all gear and it didn't do anything. Thanks for any help.

Did the engine turn freely all the way around before you mated it to the trans. Does it just suddenly stop, or gets tight to where you can't turn it, if it just gets tight, the tc may not be in to the last stop.

Take the bolts back out and see if the convertor turns freely, it should have a little endplay / fore and aft movement.
You have two sets of splines and the oil pump drive lugs to line up.

I don't think the problem is in the trans or converter, I believe its an engine problem, to find out try turning engine over with the bolts out of converter, if engine doesn't turn all the way over maybe a piston is hitting a valve

I agree with WestCoast, the problem is probably in the engine. I saw a guy have this problem and he assumed it would turn over with the starter.... it did and it broke a piston because a 1/4" nut had fallen into the intake manifold

ive been thinking about the problem, you might have a bolt that is to long installed , it could be hitting something

Manual fly wheel bolts are longer then the flex plate bolts. If you use manual bolts with a flex plate they will hit. Don't ask how I know this....
