Hi, just bought a matford from France and I would like to say hi.
I'm from the Netherlands. Me and my wife own already some classic American cars.
Since the matford needs some maintenance, I would ike to know a bit more..Maybe somebody could help me out..
So is mine...
Though this forum is great, don't forget all parts in your Matford is metric. So its hard to get around the french knowledge and parts sources...
If you take close up photo's of the parts you are interested in, it would be easy to say if they match "normal" ford parts. There ought to be a cross reference chart for the spark plugs that are in it.
Use the power of google.
The spark plug wires should be pretty universal and should be available from places that cater for oldtimer cars, Motorbike places should be able to help too.
I broke one. You can get a tool to take them out though…
This gentleman from france on the Vedette site/Matford forum apparently found out that the distributer from a 36 Ford is fitting Matford:
Bonsoir les Amis, pour la remise en état de l'allumeur tête de mort de l'un de nos amis je passe Cde. Aux USA de pièces d'origine, faites-moi vite connaître vos besoins éventuels.
Allez sur le site de Macsautoparts ci dessous ou désignez-moi la pièce et je me débrouille.
Pray that the last mechanic put anti-sieze lubricant on the plugs!
I would start with the plugs used in USA V8-60's...Champion H-10, now I think H-10C...
H-9 used on some commercial, but I would go for 10...there is a lot of crossover information on those on these on this board to locate equivalents in other manufactures.
Look at distributor. I think it will be type with 4 wires coming out of a dome on each side and a dome shaped coil bolted on top...
I think all the European Fords kept the '33-6 distributor long past 1936. If so, 3 small screws will remove the coil and you can look for parts listed in the old Ford suppliers for a 1935 Ford. Google Joblot Automotive...good people with export expertise.
Make a 50/50 mixture of automatic transmission fluid and acetone. Shake it up real good and pour on the spark plugs and let it soak. This should help release them so you won't break them.
