Master Cylinder 52 Sedan

I'm replacing the master cylinder on my 52 Ford sedan. The push rod (which attaches to the brake pedal) extends beyond the length of the boot. There is a lip on the push rod which should hold the boot in place. It doesn't. Am I missing a "trick"? Will the boot stay in place after I attach the push rod to the brake pedal?

THanks!

I can only offer a guess but many of the replacement boots are too large (the hole for the rod) and as such, will never fit properly.

Believe the big end of the boot snaps over the lip on the master, that is what holds it in place.
