Marvell carburetor

I have two Marvell carburetors. But both power valve holes are not the same. One is smaller than the other.

What is the correct hole diameter?

My mistake. I said power valve, but I meant Idle Jet.

I did speak with Dave Renner, hell of a nice guy.

For those that don't know, on a Marvel the idle jet is the tube that remains in the lower half of the carb and sticks up about 1". This tube CAN NOT be removed. If damaged you can not purchase another idle jet, no one makes them.

The orifice must be between .0225-.025.

Originally I had purchased 2 Marvels on eBay and someone drilled out one of the idle jet holes about twice the size of what it should be. I soldered it up and redrilled the hole. A number 74 or .06 drill does the trick.

Yes, the idle jet can be removed for cleaning it and the passageways. It is threaded into the carb body.

y, the idle jet on a marvel is not threaded. I forget the technical term, but it is spun in the lower half of the carb body and it kind of welds itself into place.

Does anyone have any photos or written info about the Marvel idle jet and how it is installed?

Well, we are going to have to agree to disagree! It sure looks like it is threaded and it screws in and out like it is threaded. In another thread it is said to be a 10-32 thread altho I have not checked it. I remove them all the time to clean them.

Unless we are not referring to the same thing as idle jet?

Interesting, mine does not have one of those. It just has the main jet with holes on the side for idling I assume.

Mike, when you take the Marvel apart, you should have a brass tube vertical, in the bottom half that fits inside the top half when you assemble it. That's the picture that Y-block is showing.

The brass tube sticking out of the bottom half of the Marvel carb is the idle jet.

Y, I am not saying yours is not threaded, but is that a factory thread, or did someone get to it before you?

Has anyone else seen a threaded idle jet like y's? If yes, then that solves it.

Hi all

I did the post refered to in post 5.

When I did that post I had not yet removed the idle jet. After letting it sit in penatrating oil for a couple of weeks I was able to unscrew it.

So, yes it is screwed in.

Jeff

Okay, if both Jeff and Y are saying it's screwed in, then it's screwed in.

My hats off, I bow down, and you have my apologies for thinking that I know everything about a Marvel idle jet.

My tail is between my legs and I have left the scene:confused:

I just put my Marvel back together yesterday. Yes, the idle jet does unscrew out of the body.
My marvel began acting up some time ago. I had to open up the GAV 2-3 turns to get it to start and it did not run well. I read where the passageway at the bottom of the GAV could be plugged. So, I followed the directions, drilled out the lead plug and tapped the hole with an 8/32. Put in a screw and it runs like new again. HAPPY!
