Marvel Mystery Oil

But, at what price? The manufacturer of MMO recommends 4 oz. to treat 10 gal. of gas. At the quart price of $10.00 that adds $.25 to each gallon of treated gas! However, NAPA sells it in 5 gallon jugs for $80.00. At that price 4 oz. for 10 gal. only adds $.04 per gallon of gas. Still enough to consider its benefit compared to the cost of it.

what is the best (cheapest) place to buy MMO? is it Napa? wallyworld?...jack

It does come in a 55 gallon drum that would make it even cheaper per gallon of gas - if you could ever use it all up. That much would be good for 176,000 miles. You might make it. :p

We don't know what the mystery is, but the stuff works. Also if you are about to shut down your small motor (Like a lawn mower), drain the gas tank and them pour a bit of MMO in with a hot motor. Start it and let it run . The MMO will be sucked into the carb and shortly thereafter it will choke the motor off. Next spring, add gas and it will start right up.

As I have studied the differences between the two products, Techron seems to be mostly a cleaner while MMO claims to be a lubricant which Techron makes no claim to be. So, I'm not sure we're really comparing apples to apples here. But, if they were the same (which I don't think they are) a 12 oz. bottle of Techron for $10.00 in a tank of gas every 3,000 miles as recommended on the label would sure be cheaper than constant use of MMO. Or, you can just buy Chevron, Texaco, or Caltex gasoline for a few cents more that contains Techron and not have to add it periodically. But, like I said, I think they're two different things.

I just bought a quart for $4 at walmart maybe I should get more for the price.

Henry, Going with the claim that Techron is a cleaner, and that H2O (water attracted by Ethanol) is known as the Universal Solvent, these two combined can create quite a lot of havoc in an old Ford, agreed?

The claim that MMO is a lubricant, on the other hand, tells me that this slippery stuff should help protect the system from the ravages of H2O, while also preventing the deposit of varnish from the Ethanol. :)

I wouldn't go so far as to criticize cleaners. Techron is mostly just a weaker form of injector cleaner. They have their place if you have some kind of bad buildup of deposits on critical surfaces that a cleaner in the fuel would have access too. They are most beneficial to injectors, which we don't have to worry about. But, like the instructions on the Techron label says, they are only needed periodically and really only if non-top tier gasolines are used regularly. Those are gasolines that do not have the high levels of detergent cleaners that will keep those critical surfaces clean. There is probably no need for a cleaner additive if we stick with the top tier gasolines. The following manufacturers make top tier gasolines:
76, Aloha Petroleum, Chevron, Conoco, CountryMark, Entec, Exxon, Hawaii Petroleum, Holiday Stationstores, Inc, Kwick Trip/Kwick Star, MFA Oil Co., Mileage Stations, Mobil, Phillips 66, Quick Trip, Rebel Oil, Road Ranger, Severson Oil, Shell, Texaco, Tri-Par, and U.S. Oil. No one else.

Buying gas from any stations other than those is a bit risky and would probably need periodic treatments with a cleaner such as Techron.

I'll stick with a product proven to me for over 60 years. MMO also cleans injectors. I use it in my 6 diesels once in a while to clean the injectors. You can actually feel the performance change. My wifes Mercedes diesels get sluggish once in a while and the MMO in the fuel revives them. A few years ago the one in Pa. felt doggy so I gave it the MMO treat and it cleared up in 8 or 10 miles. My wife took the car for the day and came back later and said to me "what did you do to my car it spins wheels when I start out". Her diesel wagon in Florida was shifting rough a few years ago and I put some MMO in the trans. I drove it yesterday and thought to myself how nice it shifted. No change for me I know what MMO does. G.M.

George, you might also put a half ounce on your breakfast cereal in the morning. It's said that will make you move faster. :D
