manual wiper

Has anyone ever mounter a manual wiper to the bottom of the windshield? My windshield frame is not drilled for a wiper and I have been using a manual clamp on at the top of the windshield. Now I am installing a top and this means I must remove the wiper. I could drill the lower frame but am warry of hitting the glass. I have searched old posts, but they only show mounting screw spacing, not how deep the glass is in the frame. Any comments, suggestions or directions would be greatly appreciated.

The attached photo shows the wiper on my 1931 RDPU which I believe is correct. The wiper motor is similar to the '30-31 Roadster EXCEPT the round part up faces up and the vacuum line has been relocated so it still comes out from the left when viewed from the drivers seat. This wiper was also used on the 1932 Standard Roadster. The second photo is the wiper on the outside of the windshield, I don't know if this was the same as a roadster.

Gravity is not in favor of this type of alteration since it would fall down onto the cowl. If the windshield is adjusted open for ventilation, it could be difficult to get it back up onto the windshield while driving. I wouldn't recommend it.

Open cars used clamps to hold the wiper motors to the top of the windshield frame for the most part.
