Manifold

BTW, looks like Home Depot has a product called Krud Kutter Clean and Etch that contains phosphoric acid.

You asked why ford did this ?well they did it for production .if your going to reinstall the manifolds take a strait edge make sure that the intake and exuast manifold are perfectly leval .please buy a good gasket and remember to re tighten bolts after you put some miles on it !

In ACE hardware it goes by the name of Ospho. Lowe's has a similar product but I do not recall the name. It may be termed an etching product, or rust remover/stabilizer or something similar. Traditionally it is tinted a greenish color. In Lowe's look in the paint aisle where the thinners and reducers are located such as lacquer thinner and mineral spirits.

A lot of the stuff at the big box stores have detergent mixed with it. I think Sherwin Williams has it without detergent.

Mine got heat cured on the engine after I installed it. It was a little while after spraying on two coats before it got run. It doesn't seem to have caused a problem.
Brother Purdy, My latest excuse for not finishing the Coupe wuz, I been waiting for the "CAST BLAST" to cure. You think a YEAR is long enuff? Maybe tomorrow, right now we gonna' go watch a Doc Martin Movie! (With beer & popcorn):D:D Bill W.

Where do you find phosphoric acid? I suppose I could use the same cheap soda trick that I used on my chrome horn. Soda contains H3PO4, but probably at a much weaker concentration than would be best for this job.

Ospho is one brand of the mix that includes phosphoric acid. Home depot has a brand etch and prep and there must be others.

Eastwood makes a good manifold coating that does work well. I've used it on all of my cars and the iron oxide does not creep in. I'm just sayin'

Yo Brother, I jist sprayed on two coats jist like I wood any other spray can job. It sit on the shelf fer a week or two afore I installed it. It seems to have chored jist fine. I ain't had nare bit of trouble wif it in several years.

Someone once posted that after their manifold got EXTREMELY hot from running EXTREMELY retarded, there appeared silver blobs all over the surface! He "thought" it may have been from running on LEADED fuel for MANY years in the past??????

My manifold looked BAD too.
I had my old manifold ceramic-coated, about 3 years ago.
Still nice and shiny
Nobody knows why its still "better than new" (well - you know now)

BTW
i had the intake ceramic-coated and
i had both halfes of the carb ceramic-coated too
Best i could doo

What was the cost for ceramic coating for the exhaust manifold and for the complete job? Thanks. Don/WI
