Making the GAZ AA

I think you'll find out that GAZ is an acronym for a "company" like GMC in America. ZIM, ZIL, (Chaika) and I'm sure there's others. The communist govt was fond of pretending that they were all independent by calling them "Companies" or "Bureaus" when in fact, they were organs of the party. It was not a name for a specific model. I can't say for sure, but I think cars and trucks are still being made under the the GAZ name.

When I was In Russia, in 1991, one of our guides said this" they pretend to pay us and we pretend to work". Very sad and very true.

Post #1, photo #6, shows why the communist system failed - of the seven workers assembling the truck - only one worker is actually working !

While in the US, of seven assembly line workers, 5 or 6 are generally working.. ..

Interesting, the number of women working on the assembly line.

Thank goodness for the women. The men are all leaning or standing around.

Does that truck in photo 2 have tube shocks up front?
