Main Wiring Harness Connector Assembly

Today I'm installing the main wiring harness connector at the base of the steering column. Please verify for me that there is no spring inside the connector can to hold the bakelite switch points part in firm contact with the switch rotor itself. I feel sure that's true but it has been a long time since I've seen the inside of one of these assemblies and I can't see how reliable contact can be assured without a spring of some sort. (Did I loose a spring?) The main spider spring can't do that because of where and how it is mounted. Any source of reference material showing the arrangement? Thanks for help. Rancho

Never mind.... Thanks all, sorry to add noise to the forum. I was wrong - I was right? There is a spring; I found it and all's well now. A coil spring rests on the top inner rotating part that is "driven" by the spider legs. This has an indented brass collar-washer that supports the switch rotor, itself. This coil spring clearly provides the pressure to keep the rotor with its bumps in contact with the switch contacts. So that's it! Thanks, Rancho

Thank you Tom for this and all your many informative replies. Would you like to see a photo of my unit and what I'm talking about? Rancho?

Not needed. I thought you meant the contact plate, rather than the switch contacts.:) I try to not take the spring loaded part apart, as the insulator is delicate.

I'm sure you are aware there are two lengths of covers and bail wires.

Just for the record and other viewers, here are three views of this, one opened and spread out, and two of the assembly. Tom's remark is right on; the part is held in place by tab spurs and the center part (mine seems like hard cardboard) is delicate - easily ruined. I needed to remove it to get at rust in the top can.
