magneto coil ring

Redoing my 1925 engine, new Scat balanced crank and the works. I need information on the coil ring as mine has one of the single coil windings crushed with the rapping partially tore off of it. It's the coil right next to the starter bendix and I can imagine someone trying to wiggle the starter out of the hog's head without removing the Bendix.

Can I replace that particular damaged coil and is it just pressed over the cast post? What holds it in place?

Thanks..

You could remove it, by unsoldering the strips, and remove the tape and brass strip inside the tape by uncoiling it, rub it straight, clean, place new 3M tape on the brass strip, and then re-coil the single stack, fit it back with a new gasket under, re-solder the ends, and then seal that one.........but why do all that to one?

....when the rest of these coils may need work?, after 80+ years in hot oil, time to re-do the whole ring.

Ship your core off to Total Recoil, and Wally and spouse will replace it with a total perfect done coil ring that will work flawlessly for another 80 years. Total Recoil, Chicago, phone 773-586-4485

You may not have to replace the coil. Several of my mag coils are munted like that, particularly around the starter but i just pried them away from the metal & it runs fine except that i cannot crankstart on mag' but it is your money and engine so you may want to repair the whole thing really nicely

while apart it's best to redo the coils and recharge the magnets also. It's not that costly and the result would be 14vac at idel and 30+vac at runing speed. Your engine will start on magneto no problem if set up properly.
