Hi just need some of your magic formulars for soaking spring covers before instillation.... I recall seeingsome somewhere as I purchased some spring covers for miss elizabeth as she is becoming quite the fancy lady and want her to maintain a well lubed ride as we go out quite often on country roads...What do you recomend????? thanks for all responses!

My personal opinion is that if the spring cover is soaked in oil, it will attract dirt and junk that just is just as counterproductive as what the covers are trying to achieve. Don't most people today just use the covers to hide the unsightly red rust residue that oozes out between the springs?

.

I coat the felts with heavy oil, then brush on a layer of Mystik JT-6 High Temp grease, the same stuff I use between each leaf. I also sprinkle some powdered graphite on the grease between each leaf.

BTW, the best spring covers I've seen have come from Bert's in Denver and Little Dearborn in Mpls.

Brent.. saw some of your before and after ....great stuff, beautyfull! Thank you for always sharing your knowledge with us I always find your opinions quite reasonable, I am putting the spring covers on as a way to keep the rust dust at bay and get some lubrication as I journey to `and fro in the Green Mountains both paved and not... bobbycoke...

I have been using what we call 600 oil in the spring covers on my Coupe for 40,000+ miles. The springs look good, and the improvement in ride quality is outstanding. I highly recommend spring covers on all Fords with transverse springs!

I recently used a paintable graphite based coating on both front and back springs. Worked out very well. EZ-Slide $13.99/Qt.

I use teflon lube on my springs which works good and does not attarct dirt.
I even use it on my sail slides on my sailboat and it does not dirty the white sails.
I believe its chemical name is PTFE or close to that.
