Mag Ring Clearance

I have a strange problem. I have a short block with new Scat crank. Installed the rebuilt coil ring and fly wheel assy and the mag clamp plates hit the coil poles. Without any shims installed on the mag ring. Can the bosses on the coil ring be machined to give more clearance. Or is something else wrong?

Could be the 3rd main cap was setup with the thrust wrong. Remove the 3rd main cap and see how much you can move the crank back to get clearance. The clearance is set by the babbett on the 3rd main cap only, there would normally not be thrust bearing added to the center or front caps nor the block. If it's fresh babbett, maybe the cap got turned around.

Thanks

I reversed the rear main and now my min clearance without shims is .025. I am on my IPad and I can't post pics with. But good call. I didn't realize they poured them for a given direction. Other mains now look centered.

The shop that did poured the mains and fitted the main bearings must have reversed the cap during final assembly. Seems good now. I can see how this could be an easy mistake and without mounting the fly wheel you wouldn't know

Thanks again guys

Good glad that worked. You might want to blue the cap and check for fit and contact to the crank just to check.
The don't pore for a given direction. The are faced after poring for fit between the flange and the throw on the crank.
