MAFCA vs MARC

I notice that quite a lot of folks belong to both. Is there any advantage to this, or would one or the other be sufficient?

Carl, There are advantages to belonging to both clubs. Regardless of which one, or both, you decide belonging to a National Club is well worth it!

I already belong to MAFCA, AACA, (both national) & the local AAMA. Just didn't know what MARC would add, if anything.

Mafca & marc

It adds another Club magazine.
I belong to both and look forward to both magazines.

With all the quilting magazines that my wife subscribes to, I need something to catch up!:D

I belong to both MARC & MAFCA since 1966 & 1968 respectively. I enjoy both magazines. I believe they are worth the annual fee. Don/WI

I concur with Don/WI. The dues are worth it just for the magazines. I've been a member of both 35+ years. I prefer MARC as I grew up and currently live in the Northeast where the MARC presence was much stronger than MAFCA.

I like them both as each club brings a different perspective about our Model A. I also belong to the Model AA Ford Club...that puts the icing on the double-layer cake!

My rig, although classed as "commercial" hasn't yet grown up enough to be a full fledged AA. Although my very first vehicle some 55 years ago was a '31 280A which indeed was a full fledged AA!

I also belong to both Model "A" clubs and both magazines are worth the price of Membership alone. As far as the members of both MARC/MAFCA are a GREAT group of people ! BUT as far as JUDGING i prefer MARC way of judging. Some of MAFCA judges are way to ANAL for me when dealing with a car thats 85 years old and its parts. Example [ACME RIM NUTS] MARC top judge in this area said they will recieve full credit because of being rare , impossible to find, a super job was done on them and it helps in the long run with the hobby [a wise old man]. Not speaking for all the MAFCA judges but some will take off % of points..This is why the Judging Standards take so long to come out.. To many conflicts between the two clubs.BUT also realize its only on Judging ...

Steve,

Could you describe for us some specifics about exactly what the "different perspective" is? I've belonged to both for twenty-some years, and have never seen a dime's worth of difference. For my money, Model A Times is the magazine that's worthwhile.

Carl,

One way to choose is to notice which outfit you local Model A club is facilitated with. Most clubs are affiliated with MARC of MAFCA and require membership.

Also, there was a long, contentious thread on this several months ago you may be able to search out.

Unfortunately, the only active club here is an affiliate of AACA, and I do belong both to the national as well as the local club (AAMA). The MAFCA site says we have a local chapter here, but it is in name only.

Steve, the only different perspective that I can think of is that they do not print the same articles (restoration and research) from the same people. Very rarely does that happen although it has...just cannot remember when but it was about a year ago or so.

And Yes...Model A Times are the "sprinkles" which are on the "icing (AA Truck Club)" which covers the "double-layer cake (MARC/MAFCA)"!
