Another positive thing for these "poverty" Hubcaps is that they stay on the Wheel much better than the Original Full Wheel Covers. As the Full Wheel Covers became more popular and became standard issue to most new cars, the Full Wheel Covers stayed on the Wheels much better, but back then, they don't seem to hold on as well?
A couple of comments; If you change to radials, it should require a little adjustment of the front end alignment. If corrected, that may play a role in preventing the full wheel covers to pop off.
Another consideration is that the old full wheel covers have those friction tabs that wear and bend more with each removal over the years. Those tabs can be slightly bent to increase friction. The key is to bend all tabs as evenly as possible. Too much bending will gouge into the metal wheel too much. Be careful.
My '55 has had radials on it for the past 10 years and still has the full wheel covers and I have never lost a one and it has been driven a zillion miles on the highways. But I also agree that using the full covers tears up the paint on the wheels, so that's a good reason to use the 10" caps instead. I kept the full covers on my car because that was what it came with, and my '55 Courier has the 10" caps because that's what it came with. There's pro's & cons, but to each his own.
BTW, the beauty rings pose the same conditions as the full wheel covers
although they look spectacular with the 10" caps.
