Maddening Model A Day

The car started bogging down real bad in third gear and loosing power on an incline...I found that problem after going over a lot of fuel and electrical checks... see the attached photo.

So I replaced the condenser and drove around. The car ran great. Just to be extra sure my repair was 100% I put a drop of RED LockTite on the little nut where the bottom plate connects to the top plate via the "Modern" Brass tab and the condenser hooks up. I went inside and ate...came back in about an hour with my grand daughter to go for a ride....It wouldn't start! NO SPARK!

I go through all the electrical tests, junction box, coil, but I don't get any voltage at the points arm. Long story short...that little drop of LockTite ran down the "modern" brass grounding tab and got between it and the lower plate actually stopping the tab from making current. That took a few minutes to solve! Yikes.

It happens ! Grandson and I started to go to a model A days and no crank :-( we pushed it out of the driveway and down the street popped the clutch and drove to the show ! Leaving the show we pushed it past the line of A’s popped the clutch and drove home . Where there’s a will there’s a relative ;-)

Had trouble with mine starting the other day. Somehow the set screw on the distributor had backed out a little and the distributor was loose in the block. Bad ground=no spark. Tightened the set screw and it ran great again!
