macs antique auto

Mac's shipping costs are based on a percentage cost of the parts you buy, not shipping weight. A $100 part that fits in an envelope could cost you $20 in shipping. Fortunately, I live close enough that I can pickup in person in Lockport. I only buy from them if absolutely.

yeah, but how about NY sales tax-that is a nonstarter for me........................

I don't live that far from Mac's here in NY but just far enough to make driving there impractical whereby due to their shipping costs , I don't do business there unless I can't find the part elsewhere .
Mikes has been a good source for Model A parts so far .

Exactly. I never ordered from Macs, shipping is cheaper from out of state vendors.

Bill.
We are just discussing vendors, OK. Doug is right, you are not the board police, Ryan is.

Thank you Pgerhardt, you have expressed precisely my own vexing experience in looking for a 'Search' item. I have been sent down a 'blind alley' so many times that I no longer rely on their 'Search' tool; often just skipping over to another vendor in the hopes of a better result.
I have found in then past that when you do a search for anything, the proper and clear description will give you the best results.

Searches like "Model A steering bolt" will not give you results like "Model A Pitman Arm bolt" would. Might be a poor example, but you get what I mean.

The more accurate the terminology, the better the results.

AND.. I have found, after not getting exactly what I want, rephrasing the search item sometimes helps.

I don't think it would matter how precise you are on some vendors websites. Try putting in "Pitman Arm Bolt" on Bratton's and it brings up everything that has "Arm" or "Bolt" or "Pit" in it's name... I got ~50 results, none of which was a Pitman Arm Bolt.

The trick to Brattons is to enter ZZZ in the search. It will fault out to a window, "Keyword Product Search" Here you can select any word in the description or all words in the description. The difference is 5 pages of finds or one entry.

Try it with Pitman Arm Bolt. Start, like i said with zzz. Enter, Pitman Arm Bolt in the search box and select all words.

Mikes, if you enter Pitman Arm Bolt you get just one entry.
Snyders, if you enter Pitman Arm Bolt you get just one entry.
Sacramento Vintage Ford you have to use their term, PITMAN ARM CLAMPING BOLT because PITMAN ARM BOLT gives no results when used in a search.

Each vendor's software package works a little different and yes, it is frustrating!!!

Why not buy from whoever you like & QUIT, BITCHIN'-BITCHIN'-BITCHIN'???

Bill has a right to his opinions. But, I look at these kinds of posts as an opportunity to learn about Vendor quality and descriptions.

I had a bad experience with Mac's and went through some trying times to get a refund on a foriegn made front spring. (That wasn't even close.)

But I must share some of the blame, because I didn't do my homework and bought cheap..

I don't do that any more.. So I really welcome other opines about where the Barner's buy their stuff. ;)

I needed recently a new cylinderhead to be shipped to Europe. Some research was, that USPS would take about $ 140 for it via airfreight (in Germany they deliver via DHL), if shipped by a private person.

Brattons wanted shipping costs of $ 295 via DHL, Macs took $ 190 for shipping (by UPS).
I am very dissappointed by Mike's, I asked them 2 times by E-Mail regarding the shipping costs, I never got an answer.

So I got it by Macs, it was here within 1 week.

All together MAC is reliable, the overseas shipping costs are not cheap, but less than other wendors.

Yes, that is kinda disconcerting, along with the "signs", seatbelts" and "shift knobs"
One of two...maybe...but 20 - 30...give me a freak'n break...Please
Completely turns me off to buy any of their "signs", seatbelts" and "shift knobs"

Even with the small amount Mike's charges for handling I find them to have the best prices on shipping and same products, good people to deal with...

Yes you are correct in that if a search engine is doing its job a more precise input ill result in a better result. But I put your search in brat ton's site and got this (see picture).

To be fair I got better results at Snyders, and Mikes, si I guess my complaint should be directed toward Brattons. But I will still buy from them because the have quality parts, good service, and I like not having to put in my credit card info for every order.

Hey, hey!!! That works. Thanks for the tip, Mike. Bratton's is usually my first choice when shopping but the online catalog was driving me NUTS!!:eek:

Why deal with Macs and their problems? There are many places with higher quality parts, better service and reasonable shipping costs. I can not think of one posotive thing that makes me ever deal with them after my first experience with them. Rod

I gave up on 'Bratton's" because of the rotten web site and search feature.
I'll give this a try.
I hate typing in a single particular item, and it pulls up everything BUT, or I may find it on page 20 of 35 pages listed, I don't have time to for it, and I move along.
They should get a 14 year old boy to set it up right, Lord knows it could not be worse than it is now.
Hey Bratton's...hint...hint...hint

5. .300" WINDOW REGULATOR MOUNTING CUP WASHER

That's what I'm talking about

I hate to bring up 'Old Technology', and 'dredge up the past' , but -
there was a time ( and I confess, I still do it quite often ) when 'all else fails', I pick up my phone (a hard-line, as I do not have a sell phone) and call Bratton's 800 toll free number and actually TALK to someone. In such cases, I find the issue of my concern is answered quickly and to my complete satisfaction.

I have actually done this 'old fashioned' exercise with all of the Vendor's with whom I have been unsuccessful at fathoming their website 'Search' tool. It is a bit more cumbersome I will admit, in this fast paced world of instant execution of our wishes and desires, but it does produce results, and does put an end to my frustration with their website's 'Search' tool.
