Average about 12-13 mpg city and when we finally got her out on the open road we managed 19.33 mpg. Running original setup.

I run a stock engine with Snyder HC head, zenith carb, 3;54 gears, with Ryan overdrive. On the highway last I checked I got 21-23. I figure they haven't come too far in 80 years on mileage.

All stock I got 21-22 on the highway driving 45, and it drops to 17-18 for city driving. It might even be a hair less if I catch a lot of red lights.

My 30 roadster and 29 CCPU both run a standard engine with Brumfield head and standard rear. On long trips I travel 45-50 and get 18-19 MPG. Not sure what it is around town.

Except now you'd have 5-10 times the power for your 21-23 to the gallon!
Or the same power as a Model A And 40-50 mpg on the highway!
don't get me wrong, I love all their is with a model A, but efficient it ain't.

I don't keep close track, 20$ gets more than 100 miles of mixed use(parade, local, highway), I only kept records on a long trip, averaged 23 mpg at 60-65 for over 1000 miles --no overdrive, stock ratio, head and carb, full advanve, mixture knob as closed as it would run, all "tuneup" parts more than 25 years old --I do run a thermostat.

I would think that with modifications such as overdrive and high compression head, etc. the goal should be closer to 30 --at least over 25mpg.

Kurt that is great millage for original or modified. I have an original 30 cope that i"m lucky to get 17 mpg.and it struggles the go 55 mph, i have owned several a"s and they were all different. I have a s/w that has 5-5 head, down draft carb electronic ing, t-5 trans that only get"s 19 to 20 0n long trips. I am doing something wrong. I guess the way you drive has a lot to do with mpg, my wife say"s my foot is to heavy, it"s not just my foot i"m to heavy.

what is your carbuerator, transmission, rear end gear ratio, and overdrive, and od ratio?
ect?

Everything stock original parts with 3.70 rear ratio. BTW, a Phaeton with the top up and no side curtains is almost like dragging a small parachute. I never put the top down. Also, I always try to burn the good gas without corn crap, and this helps mileage.:) Spark lever about 3/4 down at 45 MPH, and my GAV closed. It runs the same closed or 1/4 turn open, so most of the time I just close it after the engine warms up.

I am asked this question (how many mpg) by members of the public every time I stop to put fuel in the tank. My answer is always the same:

50 SMILES PER GALLON!

As I said before, I'm running a stock "A" engine, .030 overbore, Snyder h.c head 3.54 gears, Ryan 23% overdrive.... and a stock zenith carb. Tom brought up a good point wit the GAV. I too pretty much run mine closed when warmed up. They all are a little different.... you have to adjust for optimum performance for each car. It has been my experience that many folks run them too far open which wastes fuel.

Honestly I'm not sure the overdrive really increases the mileage that much greater... but it does make for easier cruising on the highways...
