Loyd Towing a 6Pdr

We had the 85BHP working hard at the weekend, I fitted adjustable tappets (followers) when I rebuilt it and I can hear one of them is not set correctly! Jobs for the winter. Despite double declutching, the standard Ford tuck box is almost impossible to change up without a crunch. If I change slowly the rolling resistance is so large that the Loyd has decelerated substantially before the next gear drops in.

if the vehicle slows too rapidly while in neutral, it might be necessary to blip the throttle to get the rpms above the optimum rev-matching shifting point, and wait for a split second with a bit of pressure on the shifter in the direction of the next gear, even on upshifts.

Possibly some 600 wt gear oil, like they use in Model As , in the transmission would help.
Years ago we had a straight cut gear 1950 Ford 1 Ton. Drove me nuts trying to shift it. Until Dad said "Have Patience , Take Your Time. GO SLow. After that I learned that he was right.
He also said that it works with women too. (another topic)

In Vietnam, I once towed a 155 with my 113 and when done that nice gun was a solid MUD ball. All day cleaning project for those gunners. Newc
