Hi guys I h ave been able to make some progress on my restoration, and I have found that the springs are missing leaves. MY questionany leaves front and back are safe to run. This is the first stock restoration i have done, and all of my rods have been low, but I also want to be safe.
Thanks, Adam

Do you want to lower the A or are you looking for information on how to restore it to stock, I'm sorry but I'm a little confused?

If you have a Tudor, then the front and rear springs should each have 10 leafs.
A spring chart by Marco for the rear was recently posted on this site.

Sorry for the little details, I want to restore to stock but I am not concernedwith judging standards. When i am don i want it to be a daily driver in the summer. T here r only five leaves each in front and back. I know some guys take leaves out to lower, but 5 seems like alot to me . Hope this clears it up

On page 22 of "How To Restore Your Model A" (Volume 1) there is a chart (reproduced from Ford Service Bulletins of July-August 1931) showing "Springs Used Under Model A and AA Chasses." This chart lists the number of leaves for each spring/body type and, together with the "Rebuilding the [Model A] Chassis" article it is part of, might provide a good starting place to answer your question.

With only five leaves, it would seem that you either have spring sets that were aftermarket hotrod springs, or five leaves removed from stock sets. You'll need to identify the leaf sizes, ie. the width and thickness of the spring leaves to determine what you have. IMO if you have stock 80 yr. old springs with five leaves removed, you have a potential for spring breakage. Model As ride very nice with stock springs and good shocks.

The number of springs Ford used has to do with car weight, passenger load, and ride feel on the road.

I would go to stock number of springs for your car. Ford would not have spent an extra dime him he could get away with it. Think about it for a moment, would it not have been easier and cheaper to have only one set of springs, shackles etc for all the styles? Since he did not, there is a reason for them and it is has nothing to do with judging.
