Lower Radiator hose on 52 V/8

I need advice on how to install a new 4 core copper Radiator on a 1952 ford crestline Victoria with a 239 V/8 I’m not as strong as I used to be I’m not sure if I can get the lower Radiator hoses to go on the water pumps. Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks. Gerald

Do you have the correct hoses with a slight offset? When I was young and strong, we used pieces of straight hose from your FLAPS. These days, the specialized hoses make the job a lots easier.

Just the obvious stuff… push the hose as far as you can in one direction. I usually put the hose on the radiator and push it as far to the front of the car as I can. I do that with the hose clips “on” but out of the way. Then I try to work it over the inlet end of the water pump by twisting the hose back and forth to walk it on to the pump. I sometimes use a pick that has a right angle bend in it, to get under the hose and pull it over the water pump inlet. With the pick getting me a little more of the hose around the pump inlet, then I can twist it on. Then center the hose and tighten the clamps. Definitely not a very easy job. Harbor Freight has a cheap pick tool set with straight, right angle and hooked tips on what look something like screwdriver handles. Good luck; I know how difficult the job is.

I will add that the last set of hoses I bought from Dennis Carpenter didn’t really have the correct dogleg in them as described above (centerlines of radiator and water pump outlets are parallel);rather, they just had a slight angle/bend in the hose. This made the hoses a bit too short. They were a bit easier to get on, but difficult to get them to seal. And the Ford script in yellow paint all came off in my hand as I worked it to fit. Should be more of a yellow ink that can’t be rubbed off. One of their parts now made in China with much worse quality, IMO.

I've always had good luck with some silicone lube and wife’s hair dryer.
If you aren’t “trophy hunting” (Ford script) go to NAPA and get a set of (Gates 115769-07275781)

BTW:
Ford script will sometimes get a point deduction on judging. Some script was not on ***embly line parts, only appeared later on service replacement parts.

Don't know if that applies in this case, lower hoses for a '52.

try a little grease to help slide them on. will be easier to remove in the future.

Do not use regular grease on rubber designed for hot water! It is a solvent. Also, do not use "oil and grease" hoses for hot water!

"Everything's better with butter". Bacon add's a lot of flavor too. And I really like a little garlic, but I don't think it will help with your hoses.
