low restriction thermostat

Do any of you guys have a recommendation for a particular brand of thermostat , preferably one that is low restriction. Thanks for any help, and /or suggestions.---Jim

Thanks Miker98038, I was not aware of the drilled plug modification. what is the main purpose of this modification. I was not really understanding it from the info on the link you posted. sorry, but sometimes it takes awhile for things to sink in, I must be getting old.---Jim

The drilled plug goes in the bypass hose between the tstat housing and the water pump. Reduces the bypass flow, and increases the volume sent to the radiator. Greenbird came up with that (at least to me). He put a garden hose on the tstat housing, plugged the w/p and ran the motor. Whole lot of water didn't go to the radiator. Opinions vary, but I know him and what kind of engineering work he does. Not to mention Tucson sees 110* F in the summer. It worked for me. Probably not so much of a problem in Palmer, and the longer warm up might be another problem. I posted the link more for the stat part numbers.

Thanks Miker98038, that info is appreciated. I will consider making the modification, but not sure, it is needed here in Alaska ---Jim

dmsfrr, Yes I am talking about a Y-Block. I guess I should have made that clear, my bad. thanks for the link you provided.-----Jim

miker is correct on all points. I use a 160* high flow for a Chrysler MOPAR 70's engine same diameter as a Y-block. If you run into a heating problem at idle or at intersections waiting for signals or backed up traffic check this: engine cold, remove cap, start engine and run long enough for the thermostat to open (be sure of this) look in the radiator to see if there is any water movement, if there is none raise the idle ever so slightly maybe 100 rpm, if you see water movement change the water pump pulley to a 320 ford from the late 60's approx 6". thep problem is there is no water going thru the rad at idle. Greenbirds from Tucson came with this too and it WORKS. good luck
