loud noise engine/transmission

I have a 1946 Ford Special Deluxe.
It has a 49 ford flathead and a 39 Ford transmission.
The car has a noticeable growl going down the road that sounds like it may be coming from the back of the motor or front of the transmission..
What are the thoughts?
Possibly transmission bearings, pilot bearing, torque tube issues?
Thanks guys.

It could be bearings. Does it make the noise all the time or just when moving? The drive train can be troubleshot that way. When the motor is running but clutch is disengaged, the pilot bearing and throw out bearing are rotating. When the clutch is engaged but in neutral then the mainshaft and countershaft are moving. Once in gear and moving, it depends on what gear is selected to tell what's moving in there. The output side includes the rear mainshaft support bearing, the U-joint, the driveshaft front support bearing, the driveshaft center support bearing, and the rear axle pinion bearings. There is also a pin on the rear of the driveshaft that comes out sometimes and rubs the torque tube. That makes a heck of a noise.

Some of the new replacement caged roller bearings for the mainshaft and countershaft have been failing. These are internal to the shafting and would require a tear down to check. It just depends on whether its been overhauled in recent years with a replacement of that stuff. Old originals last a lot longer than the new stuff.

Thank you both for the replies.
I will post my findings when I take it apart.
I am tempted to drive it the way it is until fall, unless I have a catastrophic failure.
