Loose Venturi

I'm hearing that some of the repro venturii fit quite loose in the carb body and that is causing an air leak and poor idling. A friend tried sealant and the idle settled out and the GAV valve functioned properly. Comments?

What kind of sealant did he use? I would be worried about it dissolving in the "gasoline" we buy these days.

On my zenith 2 the venturi easily slips in and out when carb apart. No idling problems. Not sloppy but a slip fit.

The glue he used is a contract Adhesive quick drying, Name; "Seal All' gas & oil resistant, Made in USA by Edectts products Inc,Pine La.71361. He is happy with the results.

The bowl gasket should hold it in place. Yes they are a loose slip fit but if the gasket or carb body is bad, gluing venture in place wont stop an air leak. Unless someone has done some work on the bowl half of the assembly and the shoulder of the venture sit too far above the face.

The original venturi on my carb. was broken & I replaced it about 15yrs ago with a new alluminium one. Although not loose, it comes out easily but when all screwed together works as good as it did with the factory one.

A thin O ring can be used, it would both seal and keep the venturi from rattling, and has the advantage of being easily removeable
