Looking for more value advice

I would take it for a road test if you are serious, check out the e brake, why would you need a block of wood? A painted engine looks nice, whats the compression? open the drain petcock, take out a cup of water, all rusty? I would want to get out for that road test for at least 45 min,you know once the money changes hands the problems are all yours now.

d.j.,
How can you tell the car has a 28-29 rumble lid? I didn't know there was a difference between 28-29 & 30-31.

Here is a picture Marco posted of the 28-29 and 30-31 rumble lid.

With all due respect, I think those who value this car at about 10 K need to check the calendar. In this year of 2014 you couldn't begin to restore a car to that condition for less than 20 K. I'm not saying it's worth that, but it's worth more than 10.

The differences between the 28-29 and 30-31 deck lids are the inner panels and the way in which the lock is mounted.

Ha! I know some guys that wouldn't give you 50 cents for a dollar bill! However if THEY'RE selling, look out! Its all part of the game.

Hi Smitty,

Humble Opinion:

Not trying to be funny; but, seriously this is not that much different from choosing a girlfriend from a written classified ad.

Judging from overall appearance, texting, & talking on the phone is one thing; but you won't know what you really dealing with until you actually take her out to see how she responds to "your" particular liking.

After that, just like with girlfriends, overall "cost" is really no object.

Hope this helps.

You're sayin' 'take her for a spin around the block to see how she fits'!!! The Model A or the girl friend;)

There was a decent looking '30 Coupe, Kewanee Green, on the Quad Cities Craigslist a couple weeks ago and I think they were asking $12,900. But then I don't know just how it compares to yours, not as many photos.

Hi Blue,

Per your above reply #29, "Yes". LOL.

If one ever owned a Model A, they learn to listen to a language spoken only by Model A's which is similar to listening carefully to a girlfriend.

One can hear her squealing with her fan belt or her brake linings.

One knows she is hot when one sees steam coming out of the radiator cap.

One can hear her grinding her teeth with her transmission or her differential.

One can hear her heartbeat with her connecting rod bearings & her main bearings,

One can experience her wandering if she has misaligned wheels.

One knows she might be stalling when she is not getting her fuel supply.

One knows she is sparking when she constantly hits on all 4 cylinders.

One knows she is legal when she has a valid & current license.

Maybe best to stop here; but I have absolutely no doubt one can add to this list as far as what to look for & listen to when trying out a Model A.

Just my opinion, but I use the rule of thumb that Hemmings price minus 20% is about the right price.

Bert's has a nice one and has sold a couple for less than $17K.

I also guess there's a 99% chance he posted that price hoping someone would bite but will take less.

You can always offer more, but it damn near impossible to go back and offer less.

H.L. Not only are you a Professor of ModelAism, you are also an accomplished Professor of Comedy. A rare combination I am sure.

Ok folks, here's my plan. I'm heading out Fri. morn to look at the blue Coupe. I's about a 5 hr. drive. The good news is we have friends we haven't seen for a couple of years that live about an hour away from the car. We will stay with them Fri. night and go check the car out Sat. Hopefully the weather will cooperate so I can take the old girl on an extended test drive. I've been doing some research and there does seem to be cars out there in that price range that are as nice if not nicer. I will report back. Wish me luck and thank you very much for all of your input. Smitty
