looking for a rebuilt 312

Ted Eaton may have parts to build one for you, and he is not too far from you. Google "Eaton Balancing".

Yes, good man. When you do your rebuild you know what you've got, and you can make choices for your driving style. But a few cautions.

If you go to Ted Eaton, don't worry about it, he knows. Same buying from John Mummert, Tim McMasters, and the other y block gurus. Y blocks have some quirks, and even a very experienced builder can miss them if he hasn't done a y recently.

Main item-Best Gaskets produced some "Orange" rear main seals that wore rapidly and failed. They've been replaced, but you might find one in old stock. I got one back in '06, in my 340cid F code motor. Didn't make 500 miles. Don't go thru what I did.

I also always sonic check my blocks before I bore them. There's some core shift problems, and best to know before the machine work starts.

I've got 292/312 crank at 320cid, and the 312 bored and stroked to 340, F code. John Mummert provided most of the serious parts and worked closely with my machinist to keep us out of trouble. Ted and others can do that, but I'm in Seattle, and John was closer to me.

If somebody does it who is not familiar with y-blocks, make sure the cam bearings ( #3) is installed correctly or your shafts won't oil. Also there are several modifications that should be done to the oiling system.
