Looking for 1955 Fairlane dash knobs

Hi all! We are in the process of purchasing a 55 Ford Fairlane. We noticed that the windshield wiper knob is missing. I have been going crazy trying to find a replacement and have been told that no one makes that year replacement knobs and that the newer models (57,58,59) won't fit.

Does anyone know where else I might find them?

To my knowledge, none of the repro parts suppliers offer dash knobs for the '55. I had a couple of spare WW knobs around here for years and finally wound up using them for auxiliary controls that I added on my '55 Courier 12volt conversion. Probably used for the rear window defroster and map lights. There's still a few salvage yards left that have the remains of a few 55 Fords.

I have a box of old Ford knobs but not sure what a '55 looks like. Can you post up a picture of one of them?

Here's a picture of my RanchWagon's Knobs... I don't recall any of the vendors having '55 knobs.

If they are the same as TBirds, then contact the TBird suppliers as they have repro knobs.

The T-Bird knobs are the same EXCEPT that they have a chromed dome-shaped center cap that fits over the center portion of the knob, so they look different. But the knob will fit on the WW control shaft.

Hi Lorbor,

Any luck on this, as I see you post is several months old? If not, I recently saw several replacement knobs on Ebay.

The knob for the windshield wiper has to be purchased as a complete knob/cable setup and should be available from some one parting out a car....List it on H.A.M.B. under parts wanted, also look on ebay....also if you can removed the old knob off the shaft then you could cement any 55 knob on and save buying the cable setup....John in CT

I see this posting is going the way of many others I've seen on all forums. Seems the original question for help is posted (Lorbor72 in this case), then many helpful Ford Barner's take the time to try and help. Then the original question asker is never heard from again to even say thanks, no thanks or get lost.
I guess it's something I need to learn to not bother me.

Good point. It isnt worth an unplanned trip to the barn.

Just check the original poster. He was on here in April, and has only 3 posts total. That should tell us something. ;)

Yeah, it seems to be happening more and more. But on the flip side sometimes I learn things from ya'll of where to find a parts or info so it's not all bad.

There is a guy on this site parting a '55 Ford, me.

See that's what I'm talkin' 'bout right there, now we all know Mike's parting out a '55. You get those springs out yet???

Hi fellas,

I wanted to let you know that I do appreciate all of the helpful advice.

I do apologize for not responding to all of the posts, but just two weeks after my original post I was diagnosed with cystadenocarcinoma. I had to have two major surgeries-one in early May and one in June to remove the cancer (although no chemo, thank God) and have spent the past few months slowly recovering. I have just recently been able to get back to normal activities, including finding parts to restore our 55 Fairlane. My husband has been working on it, but he's not much on the computer.

Anyhow, more than you all wanted to know. But the advice has been great and I'm sorry if I frustrated a few of you with my lack of posting.

Yes Dennis I did, Thanks.

Lorbor, Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but it sounds like better days/months are ahead.
