I got a Flattie! Unfortunately it wasn't stored well, and is now stuck. But I couldn't argue with the price! The guy I got it from said is was a 41, but I don't know how to verify that. here is a picture. Hopefully it can be saved!

Measure the bore, the 41should be 3-1/16 bore, the 46=48 should be 3-3/16. The 41 usually has steel sleeves, scrap the carbon around the top of the bore, there should be a line around the top of the cyl about 1/8in. out from the bore. The 41 should have the letter A in the center on the head, the 46-48 should 59AB in the center. Walt

The intake manifold is a 46 - 48. See if a pencil will rest on the ledge above the timing cover, if it does, it's 39 - 41 and if not its's 46 - 48.

Congrats!! Hope it turns out well!!!!

thanks! I'm excited.

That's awesome. Thank you. The bore measures at 3-1/16 and there is just A in the center of the head. I will check for the sleeve.
Looks good! It appears kind of oily. May not be stuck too bad. Dennis

I started soaking it immediately.

Pull the sleeves, bore .040" and install 3 3/16 pistons (239ci), keep the "A" heads.

Thank you for the advice.

Welcome to the flathead pleasure dome. Good luck with it.

Thank you

now this is what this site is good about thanks

I know! I can't wait to learn more about flatties.

I will try that. Thank you.

Everyone. Again, thanks for the advice. I'm sure I will have manny more questions. On a side note. I also saved this stuff from scrap.....

I know Rick! He's family friends with the Suver's, who are good friends of mine. He has been working for someone else lately building some of the Corvette/nomad cars out of metal. I also know he is having some trouble with the city. They made him take down his sign and are trying to get back taxes because they consider him "auto repair". he is only there on fridays now. I really hope things work out for him. He is such an amazing metal shaper. I'll have to go see him.

Yeah I know he was having some problems, hope it works out, that and maybe a new place, Tell him Roach Said Hi!!

..............Roach.

On the bell housings, one cast, one steel. The starter plates that go with them have to match, those plates are not interchangeable. At least, that is my understanding. That yellow is very interesting. Does that mean it was some kind of industrial motor?

Yeah, it was. Some of this is the remains to power an old log puller. I guess it blew a hose about 5 years ago in the summer and got filled up with water. The block split in two that winter. Pretty sad.:( The rig is powered by a 351 now. I got the parts from one of the crew.

Soon it will look like this:
