Locking the doors on a 30 A

When I am out driving around and want to stop to eat inside some where or something like that. I am not by my car anyway. I don't have door handles that lock. You know how some guys don't know the boundries of not opening the door to look in. I think innocent looking but non the less unwanted by me.

Did the A's have locking doors? If they did and I can get some can they be keyed to the same key as my ignition key? I don't have a pop out switch in my A by the way. It's just a insert and turn switch.

I am curious what you guys know, have, or suggest. Thanks

they have a locking right hand door handles, Originally if you had and oval speedo the door key did not match the pop out key, with round speedo the door handle could be the same key, if your ignition key will slide into an original door handle you can key the door handle the same, but chances are it will not slide in, the fults on the side of the key will not line up right.

my car (early '31 coupe) locks with key on passenger side . drivers door locks from inside .. steve

Answer depends on the body style but all closed cars had a lock on the passenger side. Maybe in the handle or a separate lock depending on body style. Drivers side always locked from inside with no outside lock.

Re: That is kind of strange thinking

I am sure there is a reason for the passenger side locking from the outside only. Maybe you slide across the seat to get to the curb to get out. Thanks for the help.

In Fort Lauderdale it is still illegal to exit yur car on the drivers side when parallel parked.

Some states had laws ( blue laws now ) that forbid you from exiting the vehicle on the drivers side when parallel parking.

Yup, it's illegal to open a door into a traffic lane around here but not usually enforced. I exit the drivers side, then lock the door, close it and then walk around and lock the passenger door. I do have to unlock the pasenger side and reach over to unlock the drivers door. (it's easier than tryin to slide across for me) If my better half is with me I play the gentleman and open her door and then ask her, ever so sweetly, to unlock mine, most times she will.

REMOTE UNLOCKING! Got tired of running board "GROOVES" in my shins from reaching across to unlock driver's door.
With driver's door panel off, tied a loooong, black boot string around shaft of door lock goody, passed it over shaft for inside door handle, let it dangle, and put the door panel back on. Tied a knot just barely below the door & cut off excess "telltale string." A quick tug & Voille,' YOU'RE IN!:D
Before that, talking to a man at the drug store, (car not locked) I casually pulled out my Dodge remote, pointed & "clicked," and opened the door!:D I CAN STILL REMEMBER THE LOOK ON HIS FACE!:eek:

I see that the vendors show a handle that can be used on either side for some models that have a key lock for the left door. Has anyone done that?

I put one on my tudor, too lazy to walk around. When i had my 32 coupe only the pass side had key lock also. Now my taurus only has key lock on driver's door.....................

My 31 CCPU had the locking handle on drivers side & inside slide-lock on pass side. But door panel kits likely have lock-slide hole punched in drivers side.

I am looking at retroford.com and have a question into them to see if their set has locking keys for both handles. The photo only shows one handle facing the camera with a key hole. The other one is facing away.

I really would like both sides to lock by keys for ease of locking the doors and exiting the car.

Here is a pasted clip from their ad:
This set is for your 1930 1931 Ford Model A. These are die cast and beautifully chrome plated. These handles will look and fit just like the originals! They are the locking style.
