Locking Gas Cap for Model A Question

Does anybody out there know of a locking gas cap that will fit 30/31 Model A gas tank. Car show in Detroit is held indoors and one of the requirements is a locking gas cap, otherwise all fuel must be drained. Mfr? Part#? Any ideas?

Ask them if they will accept a taped gas cap, like with duct tape. That's what we have to do in Portland. I think we are also restricted to 1/4 tank, but i can't remember for sure.

30-31 should be no problem, the earlier threaded necks would be a problem for off the shelf fit, I know some of the old import caps came with adapters that had ears that could hook to the lip of a neck and be tightened with a screw similar to a motormeter ---perhaps a motormeter base could be modified for them, but the 30-31 neck size was used for many cars

I've seen them for '32 and up and all those seem to have an opening of approximately 1.5". The Model A opening is 1.8". Nothing listed anywhere for Model A.

Have they ever had A's before?

I'm sure they have, but what is more surprising is that there's no locking gas cap to fit the A out there.

How handy are you? Make your own. Get a repop gas cap, a cylinder and have a go at it. This cylinder is weather resistant, 304 SS face and spring key shutter over zinc cylinder. Comes with a few different latch pieces to use as starting stock. Ingenuity required, not included.

Thanks Mike,
I've already torn the guts from an old radiator cap that I intend to modify with one of the locking mechanisms you cited if I cannot find something off the shelf. Another idea was to fabricate a lock box to fit over the existing gas cap. Would not be as attractive as a genuine locking cap however.

I've seen locking gas caps advertised for bidding on eBay. That are suppose to fit Model-A's.........................

couldn't you drill and tap a set screw in the side of a cap into the neck. it wouldn't be a perminent thing and it would keep the cap looking more original.

What is a locking gas cap that will fit a 30-31 model A tank worth?? I've got one that has been sitting on a shelf for 30 years. I've never used it but I just went out and checked and it will fit the 30-31 tank. It has two keys, one inserted in the lock cylinder. The key moves freely but won't come out of the cylinder. I've got it soaking in PB blaster. I had two of these caps but gave one to my daughter. I had just left the key inserted so as not to lose them. It appears to be chrome plated with a little cover that slips over the key slot when the key is removed. I'm not too proud of this cap and would sell it in as is condition.
