Lock me up

Re: Lock me up-Floaters that cause problems-Photo

Tom Wesenberg asked above if floaters are installed ...

Back in the 60's Ricks, JCWhitney and Warshawski sold these floaters.

The problem I had with them is that the brakes made a very loud bang sometimes as I pressed on the brake pedal.

Removing these and installing original parts fixed the problem.
Strange, Benson, I had these on Minerva, called Shure Stop Equalizers, for me, they worked beautifully. Important thing is to shorten the operating rods properly to get the proper operating lever angle. I set mine at 11:00 o'clock position. Bill W.
(It's important to keep the brakes adjusted up regularly, or they can POP over center, maybe that's the noise you referred to.)

Having read the previous posts I guess I need a clarification on one item. Maybe this a misunderstanding on my part, but isn’t the roller pin that rides on the roller track supposed to, well, roll or turn when the brakes are activated? I would think that greasing the roller pin head would encourage the pin head to slide on the roller track instead of roll. Am I wrong about the ”it’s supposed to roll not slide part”?

A29FORD, I really haven't the slightest idea if it rolls or slides, hard to see in there when you drive! I could set up my pet cockroach in there with a tiny LED & report back. The Dog:cool: will translate the bug-a-boo talk to English. Bill W.

It would be nice if the pin would roll, but I can't imagine it ever happening, That pin should have had a square head for more surface area. I'd grease it.

I just started to reassemble my brakes today. Your response is greatly appreciated, thanks Tom. I'll grease them.
