Load-O-Matic with or without SCV

The question is; what was the criterion for whether a carburator would be equipped with the spark control valve in association with a Load-O-Matic distributor?
I have seen original carbs without the SCV on cars with Fordomatic and vise-versa. I have an old carb still in the Western Auto rebuild box that does not have the SCV, but does have the dashpot actuator, dashpot bracket and dashpot.
This would suggest that non-SCV carbs were used on cars with Ford-O-Matic, contrary to popular belief.
Looking back at an old 1956 Ford car shop manual, the carb adjustment and rebuild section does not illustrate nor ever mention an SCV anywhere in the text, except on the four bbl carb. Any carb experts who know?

All V-8's (Ford, T-bird, Mercury & Lincoln Y-blocks) from '54 thru '56 2 bbl. or 4 bbl. had spark control valves and load-o-matic distributors with no centrifugal advance. This also includes '53 Lincolns with the first Holley 4 bbl. (2140). If the '56 shop manual carburetor section didn't include this, it was a mistake on the manual writer's part.
I'm not sure about the 1953 and earlier flathead V-8's and 6 cyls.
