Here's a picture of LIQUID TAPE made by GB (Gardner Bender). I used it to repair the missing insulation from the last 1 1/4" on the output wire, and also to repair a bare spot on the field wire. The output wire, which is sticking outside the housing, has two coats applied about 10 minutes apart. I could build the thickness, but want the wire to remain very flexible. Liquid Tape is also good to apply to loose field wrappings or frayed wire insulation. Now that I finally gave in and bought some, I'm glad I did and should have been using it for years. I'm sure I'll find other good uses for it also. It goes on like a thin rubber coating and stays flexible. A 4 oz. bottle cost $5 at Fleet Farm.
BTW, as you can see by the pin in the case, this is a 1929 generator and has the output stud near the front of the case, and no weld seam.
