On a facebook page about Lincolns:

"Not long after AL Capone was convicted of income tax evasion in 1931, his assets were seized and his almost new 1930 Lincoln was impounded by the Chicago Police Department. In the top photo Police Commissioner William E. Russell was showing the astonished crowd of men the specially added speed equipment on Capone's Lincoln. The most prominent items were dual side-by-side Winfield downdraft carburetors."

Supposedly, a couple of down draught BB Winfields were added.

Thanks for posting. Even with it's later style grill, that first pic gives a good idea of why the Model A was known as the 'Baby Lincoln'...

I was always under the impression that Al was a Cadillac man. His armor plated 1928 Cadillac is still around. Last time I looked it was for sale for -$1,000,000- on Hemmings.;)

OT here but related.
A member of our club bought another car that was seized by the US authorities back in the day after they gaoled a crook - Legs Diamond. It is a 1932 Chrysler Imperial in very original condition. Evidently, it sat for years gathering dust in a corner of the police garage and it wasn't till after the war that it was finally sold off. The guy who bought it didn't use it and eventually decided to sell. Our club member was in the right place at the right time and it now resides in Australia
When it was being inspected by Customs, they insisted that the locked compartment under the back floor be opened. No body had a key so a locksmith was brought in to open it. After all of the trouble, it was EMPTY!

They should have called in Geraldo Rivera to supervise the opening of the box.

Had to look that one up ...

"The Mystery of Al Capone's Vaults is a two-hour American television special that was broadcast live in syndication on April 21, 1986, hosted by Geraldo Rivera. It centered on the opening of a walled-off underground room in the Lexington Hotel in Chicago once owned by the crime lord Al Capone, which turned out to be empty except for debris. Thirty million people watched, making it the highest-rated syndicated special in history"
