Lincoln OD Trans into a 35 Ford?

The Ford AA truck auxilliary trans is similar to the Brown-Lipe-Chapin or "Browny" aux drive units of later manufacture. These were used in trucks before the electric two speed axle was developed. They have to be shifted with a seperate lever or pedal and some of the straight cut gear types might be a tad noisy.

I love noisy gears. I had trouble getting the auxiliary ****** out about this time last year and never got back to the project. I could not get it to slide forward. There must be some secret. They are suppose to have planetary gears. It has not started snowing. I will get some pictures soon if i can get the dog out of in front of the door. This is his kind of weather.

Pardon my ignorance, I have never heard of an AA under-drive Ford auxiliary transmission. Can you post pictures of one?

Here are the pics of the model AA auxiliary transmission and Jasper

thanks! Cool looking dog too.

when joyce brought jasper home i was upset. Now i can not spend enough time with him. Most dogs sleep 18 hours a day. Jas sleeps about 22 hours. The experts say that the provider for the dog and the dog should have the same energy level. We are pretty will matched. He does protect me from the chipmunks. He has not caught one in seven years. He no longer barks when he sees a chipmunk but it has not helped his catching one. He weighs 211 pounds. HE IS 1/2 ST BERNARD AND 1/2 THE NEIGHBORS BIG BLACK DOG.

He went to Speed Week this year. He consumed 30 pounds of ice per day. He has been to Glacier Park and Yellow Stone.

Look at a overdrive from Dave at Modelaonly in Ca. It is a Ford truck trans 4 speed 4th is overdrive floor shift, and Dave makes a kit so it will bolt in your car. Iput one in my 48 had to make my own rear mount , did not cut the frame bigger just remaved the original mount. I used a 39 tube and drive shaft as the trans is longer. Dave will shorten your tube and shaft. I have a 29% od with 4:11 gear now this is a real nice car to drive. looks original underneath! Laurie

Column Shift Conversion

Around 1950 my dad coverted our '39 sedan to column shift. The three speed column was the trend in new Fords for ten years and he wanted the convenience and the trendy shifter, since he was likely to have needed to repair the trans anyway. It was going to be more than ten years before the floor shift came back into popularity. Overdrives were becoming more popular through the fifties since they offered economy and quiet running. To go "early fifties" era correct, the column would be right on. The phoney nostalgia for the floor shift came out of the sixties and those that don't know better wrongly think earlier. If there was three on the floor, it was because you couldn't get a column shift in the car or couldn't afford any better. I just bought an F1 column and like what I see. Good Luck: Fred A
