Lights keep turning off?

My problem is when I turn the steering wheel with the lights on it will turn them off or on high beam I know that the light rod must be turning in the shaft it must be bent slightly or tight? My question is can the rod be lubed up with grease to make it slide in shaft when rotated or do I need to remove and straiten or buy new rod? Thanks Robert DeBord

I just put in a new light rod but I also added the little brass bushing that inserts at the top of the shaft. The supplier says it keeps the rod seperated from the shaft which makes sense. How bent is the rod?

Hey Peter J the rod has the brass bushing on it just seemed to be a little tight when I installed the rod but the rod was real dry just seemed like it needed some lube I didn't know if this may hurt anything? Don't really know if it is bent just assuming it may be. Thanks Robert

I have just cured the same problem. In my case the rod was not bent. The reproduction 30/31 light switch top was binding in the sreering wheel recess. The repro was very slightly oversize. At a glance this was not obvious as the binding was lower than the visible circumferential gap.I pulled the rod up and using 3M wet&dry paper slightly sanded the touching area. The rod top puts a shiney mark on the wheel recess so you can easy see where the sand. My problem was highlighted because there was a dead short on low beam in the left hand headlamp.Every time I turned a corner the accessory 20 amp fuse blew and the car died right on the corner, not the safest place to stop !!!

Hello John I will try that procedure I don't know if this is a reproduction rod or not it came with the car but was not installed I guess I will just have to pull it and try different things to it to see if it get any better, Thanks Robert DeBord
