Light switch moving with steering wheel

On a trip this weekend I noticed that for the first time my lights are coming on when I turn the steering wheel. So what suddenly is binding that didn't use to?

If you are lucky you can spray some penetrating oil under the horn button/light switch and get it into the shaft area. Otherwise you can remove the spider on the bottom end of the horn rod and then lift the rod out of the column to get lubricant in the tube. Also make sure the thin brass sleeve is in place at the top of the horn rod. Make sure the horn rod is straight and doesn't have any kinks.

Toms input is particularly notable if you are using an aftermarket wiring harness. I have noticed that some if not all the aftermarket switch plates have more shallow indents than the originals do and that allows the switch to rotate more readily.

Gettcha a light switch rod bushing/brass anti-rattler bushing. It fits between the switch rod and the top of the steering shaft at the top. Worked like a charm on our Roadster, which also had the lights-on, lights-off syndrom. It costs less than $2. Installing it on an open car is a snap.
