lifting generator/belt/35/alum. manifold

What would be the best method, for tightening the generator/fan belt. I do not want to scar up the aluminum intake manifold on the 35 while doing this. Thanks for any input Chet

Chet-

This is what I do on my '35. I am sure it will "horrify" some but it works for me. You probably already have the right radiator hose off if you had the generator off the car. If it isn't off, take it off. With the radiator hose off I use a bar to lift the generator up using the water pump (not the pulley), as a fulcrum. It doesn't hurt the pump nor does it scar the intake.

Hope this helps.

I have both hoses off, as I am put the motor back together. That method sounds like it is doable. Thanks Chet

there was an artical in the v/8 times how to make a simple tool which works quite well if you have a 2010 roster look it up.it was a piece of flat stock with a bolt

If you leave the box-end wrench hanging on the adjustment nut, with the adjustment nut just loose enough to allow the generator to slide up against the belt, you can easily pop the gennie up against the belt and hold it with the left hand and bring the wrench up to tighten with the right hand. No pry bars, no scratches, and the belt won't be too tight. ..B.

looked it up if you can get a copy of the v8 times jan/feb 2006 it shows how to make it i am sure some one on the barn has a copy. let us know

Get a 7/8" racheting box end wrench, makes it easier to tighten the nut while pulling up on gen. pry with oak, metal rod, hand, or ?

I use a 5/8 round bar to pry up on the back, then a peice of wood wedged under that same bar to hold it, then another 5/8 rod under the mounting nut and across to the left water pump (behind the pulley) pull upon this rod then rachet the nut with the 7/8 wrench. its easier than it sounds..
