License Plate Year Tabs

Went to Brimfield Ma antique shows last week. Only thing I got was 4 year change license plate tabs that go in upper right corner of plate. All early 60'S. Have no idea of state of issue. They have a faint serial number on each.

Any idea of state?

Thanks to both of you fellows that replied. I'll look them up on NY license plate search. These are very interesting and well made.

Thanks ML

My bad ! I looked at them a little closer and they are NOT NYS tabs after all - close, but no cigar, Sorry, wasn't trying to mislead you.

I looked through one of my reference books on license plates, "License Plates of the United States" by James K. Fox, and found only one state, Michigan, had tags of that shape. The book only shows passenger car plates, not other types (i.e. commercial, taxi, bus, etc.).

According to the book, passenger car plate tags for 1960 were Yellow with red numbers, 1961 white w/ red numbers; 1963 green w/ white numbers and 1964 were black w/ yellow numbers. The tags you have appear to have original paint, so I suspect the ones where the color isn't correct (according to the book), may have been for non-passenger car vehicles.

Hope this helps.

Bob, and others thanks for the research. Michigan appears to be correct. Checked E-Bay and there were some of the same tags for sale. same years and colors. You are probably right on maybe not being PP types. Some of the passenger plates had preformed years stamped in them.

I saw a lot of vendors that day but I think the fellow that I bought them from was from Michigan.

This is the greatest sight for info, Ford or not.

BTW the four cost me $15.00. Only thing I bought all day. Had a great time.

Thanks ML
