Is there someone that just mite have a 1930 Michigan lic. that I can buy?
I hope it is alright to ask this. I would like to put this on the front of my truck. Dwight:)
 
A couple of questions you might ask yourself. Are you going to use them for YOM (Year of Manufacture) registration and if so you should be looking for two plates (I assume this option is available in MI). Next question, are you looking or a commercial plate? I am currently looking or a pair of 1931 commercial plates for California and they are almost impossible to find.

I think that I only want the one, just because it is all most impossible to find a good looking plate. I looked at the two on Ebay and they are not good for what they are asking..
 
Alaska YOM plates are non-existant for the Model A years. A lot of guys here use a YOM plate from wherever on just the front. (I have a '31 Texas Commercial on mine). Not really legal, but no one here has been called on it. I do carry the "Legal" plate with me.

As to the condition of the plates on eBay, they can be "restored" for around $40 if you choose to go that way. You might try a lower priced offer to the one that says "Make Offer". The worst he can do is say "no".

carl who does the restoration for $40.00.??... i just paid 110.00 but it was a first class job...
 
Dwight: One of the best ways to get the plate you want is to go to a local antique mall where there are 20-30 different booths selling stuff. I always stop in several as I travel across the country and there are always lots of plates for sale. No shipping charge either. Must be some near you. Good luck.

That was $40 per plate, $80 for both + $8 for shipping. This was about a year ago. He did a nice job, included reparing some nail holes. I was well pleased with the job. I think he advertises in the national magazines also.

Peanut: you might inquire with Duane, since he is in MI, he might have one already doen up ready to go. Wouldn't hurt to ask.
 
I called Duane, he has 1930 modified from 1931 and I'm not sure that is what I want. If I'm going to pay good money I would like the best I can get. Has anyone have more Ideas? thanks to everyone that is helping me.

Put an ad on Craig's List and in your area "Shopper". Put an ad up at the auto parts store, if you can. Look in Hemming's or do an internet search for license plate sellers.
Bop on down to Charlotte or Carlisle next spring and search. Put want ads up here an don the HAMB in the classifieds section.

You'll have to think outside the box a little, theses things don't grow on trees.

It's winter in Michigan, what's the rush?
 
I have this plate from MadMax. I going to restore it myself.

buy a pair, Michigan is considering front plates again...

There was a guy that had restored plates at the Russ Milne swap meet for reasonable prices and the looked new! Someone here on the forum might know him, I have a buddy looking up his name for you...

I'm sure that the vendor will be back there in March at the 2014 sale as well, stay tuned, I'll see if I can get you his name, you won't believe the quality!
