Lester 550/575 -19

I am with George on this one. But I do have Goodyears on 'le Coupe and they have about 18,000 miles on them with lots of tread left. Put 100 miles on her yesterday at 50 to 55 mph.

oops. I am getting ahead of myself. Pulled the Goodyears off about 4 months ago to see how 16's would look and ride. The Goodyears were put on the speedster and they really looked good on the speedster.

CarlG; My son in the big trucking business always put radials on the front except his new 10 wheelers that came with radials all around. The question is; Do you get the handling and control with radials on the front only in a Model A? They are expensive especially for a car that gets less than 5000 miles a year put on it . Jack

I really don't know about putting them on the front ony. I do know that road handling with the radials (all around) is great. No more jerking around when the wheels want to follow the "ruts" in the pavement. I wouldn't even think about putting them on the front only.

As far as expense goes, yea, but then so is everything else. I wouldn't have a Model A if I were all that concerned about the cost per mile. And, as far as that goes, the expense of new radials vs new bias ply tires when all is considered (freight, installation, etc.) it's not that big a difference.

I also use the 5.50 X19 Excelsior Stahl Sport Radials.
Compared to bias ply, these radials handle and ride very smooth and "track" nicely, especially when crossing uneven or bumpy roads, railroad tracks, etc.
They have the added benefit of a little bit more tire surface area on the ground for better braking, due to the slight squatting to the ground compared to bias ply tires. While the radials cost about twice as much the bias ply, the tire life is supposed to be close to double the life of the bias ply. However, I cannot verify that as I only have about 8,000 miles on the radials, but they show no significant sign of wear so far. I will buy them again when I need replacements.

Hi Pat,
Reports from folks who have driven your car have been excellent. Tire life would be the determining factor for me. As you know the little coupe is my main squeeze;-)
