Les Andrews book sticker shock !

I looked at Amazon for Les Andrew's books.

http://www.amazon.com/s/?tag=atomicindus08-20

His first mechanics book is $307.50 new $124.97 used

His Trouble shooting book is $294.94 new $56.54 used

For today only I will offer 2 used books for $200 cash.
I wonder if Mr. Andrews knows Amazon has a bit of a markup.[/QUOTE

Yes, shocking. Ty Bratton's, MARC other web sites. Those prices are big time rip offs from that Amazon seller.

my phone at the shop rings with more sales and crap calls than actual customers everyday. its totally out of control and interrupts me doing my work. even subscribing to the do not call list does nothing at all.. i wish i had an answer to correct it, other shops i know put on there answering machine all day but i cant see doing that as it could be someone broken down or other emergency..

CTVPA,

How about you save over $100 and get all three book NEW?

Go to the MAFCA web site's store, the first book sells for $35 if I'm not wrong. The other two are less even and new at that. Give it a look, you won't be disappointed and good luck.

Yes, I have both books, I could not live without them. I was answering a Ford Barn request from a person new to the Model A. I though I could give him a reference web site. This is the result, and I was shocked.

There are so many ways around the 'do not call list'. I get about 3 a day. The 'Do not call list' says ( in Massachusetts) that you cannot sell anything, so they offer "Free evaluation of your windows", not selling anything. Political ads are also exempt (wonderful of the government to exclude themselves form intruding my time)
The newest one is robo-calls from a guy who will do anything for a buck, power wash a house, clean your car, steam your rugs, but the call is from a "Private Caller", he never mentions the name of his company, or a callback, you have to press 9, and he will pick up. So I have no way to report him. His message on my answering machine is 30 minutes long, and pleas for work so "his men can feed their families" quotes the bible, and begs you to 'save his company in this time of government pressure'. I get his call about once a week.
I work a rotating shift, and I can't turn off the phone in case family is trying to call. But I would love to call this mans house at about 1 a.m. and talk about steam cleaning a part of his anatomy.

Tom, are you using the "do not call" service?

Its interesting how MAFCA sells them for around $35 apiece and others apparently are able to make $150 per publication by selling them later on.

I think this has to be an error. Does any one know the contact info for Mr Andrews? He should contact Amazon and get this fixed.

There are nutty things that result from Amazon's pricing formula. I once saw an out-of-print biochem lab manual that I and a colleague had written and photocopied and sold at-cost to our students being offered for hundreds of dollars. It was useless--terribly out of date and with the experiments keyed to the even more out of date equipment available in our particular lab. Rarity must be a big factor.

Vol 1: $35, Vol II: $30 & Trouble Shooting: $25.00 with quick check out with no apparent registration to MAFCA. And the feeling of satisfaction of fixing your car: Priceless.

CTVPA: You do steam cleaning of part's of anatomy? Is your office located on Taylor St, Springfield, MA?

TOM simple just subscribe to the "DO NOT CALL LIST" done and over!!!

Telemarketers are allowed one call. Once there list is used they change the called from number (they rent them) and do it again.

I am with Mitch in that the telemarketers and "automated dialing-bots" are way more prevalent at my business than customer calls each day. It is WAY beyond annoying.

I too inquired about the Do Not Call list and found out it only applies for home phones and cell phones, --business listings do not apply. Tom is also correct in these telemarketers purchase a list with an unlisted number and make the call. What good does it do to report them because you have no way of knowing who they are, ...and for everyone you defeat there seemingly are two new companies that replace them. I too have taken the attitude that work is more important than answering the phone. Answering machines are so impersonal but maybe that is why companies are going to them.

we get an average of 9 per day 5 days a week, every week. .I have now gone to looking at the ID on the phone, and answering using THEIR business name..Totally throws them off guard and ends it right away...OR try answering the name of a funeral home....then when they ask you if you take credit cards the fun begins!

1) A quick check of the Amazon sellers, these are all "Used Book Sellers" that are out there to get what ever they can get. The fact that these are books relating to 80+ year old cars is what jacks the price up with them. I have bought other books on Amazon and got some really good deals. You just have to know what it is that you are looking at.

2) This thread has sort of morfed into telephone bots. My wife & I both have cell phones, plus the fact that we both work and therefore not home a lot of the time. The answering machine and caller ID have screened out 95% of the unwanted calls. I rarely (if ever) answer the phone, rather let the answering machine take the call and return wanted calls on my schedule. People that want to get in touch with me use my cell # anyway. Seriously thinking about loosing my home phone alltogether. Of course for a business, this doesn't work.

DO Not call list works. If they continue to call ask to be removed. Sometimes it is companies or affiliates of companies you have dealt with. They must remove you. If it's a hangup, call the number back and ask them to remove you. Takes a little effort, but I have gotten rid of all except the politicians, THEY ARE EXEMPT JUST LIKE THEY ARE FOR EVERYTHING ELSE, except good things. LOL

My cell is my business ph, and fortunately I only receive a couple of spam calls a month. My home ph tho, is a horse of a different color. I wondering why I even have it.
