LED Focused Beam Headlights - My Experience

LED headlights seem to be a very polarizing subject. I'm not hear to argue the point, I just want to share my experience with the new focused beam LED headlamp bulbs from Logo Lites.

I already have LED tail/stop lights and I recently converted my '31 CCPU back from 6v pos ground alternator to original generator and cutout. I had the 32/50 headlamp bulbs and they worked pretty well. But I wanted to reduce the electrical load and still have bright headlights. After looking at the available options, I chose the focused beam LED headlight bulbs from Logo Lites.

As the name implies, these bulbs are pre-focused internally. While the headlamp reflector remains in place, it is not used to focus the beam. I still have the original, unrestored reflectors, so this is a plus. The new LED bulbs simply replace the stock bulbs using the original socket. The new LEDs were installed easily. My generator's 3rd brush is set to its lowest output position. I get about 5 amps on the ammeter with the lights off. With the headlights on low or high beam, I still get a slight positive charge on the ammeter. I'm very pleased with this.

Here are couple photos I took the first time out. Afterwards I aligned them a little better and set them so the upper cut off edge of the low beam was at 37" per the Ford manual.

I realize opinions vary on these, and again I'm not here to debate their pros/cons. While they are a bit costly, they seem to work very well and are worth it to me. I'm very happy with the forward illumination and that I can run the generator at its lowest output with no need to adjust the 3rd brush.

Thank you for the product review. I looked at the video on Logo Light link you posted and they throw at least as much light as original bulbs with much less amperage draw, and self focusing to boot. 50 bucks each, if I read the link correctly. There are many worse ways to spend money.

I too have promoted this light bulb several times in the past with great opposition from a Facebook page moderator who openly criticizes them. I will say it again, these are a very good option for someone who would like to drive their vehicle in the dark. Many of the so-called complaints about not being able to focus them, or about blinding oncoming vehicles, -or whatever likely have never actually used these bulbs as many their negative comments just aren't the same as I have experienced in using them on multiple vehicles.

I'm willing to give credit to the critique that they don't replicate the original brightness pattern, but folks... your headlamp buckets and reflectors are adjustable. Adjust them. Even cheaper LEDs that don't focus well can make the difference between can/can't drive at night.

I think a big problem is that people are trying to force new technology to fit 1928 standards.Back then you had to take a few particles of light and focus them into a usable pattern.Trying that now is pounding a square peg into a round hole. You have to aim the new lights, not focus them.N.H. no longer accepts marks on a wall to aim headlights for inspection purposes. You have to have a machine to do it,the most popular one here is made by Sym-Tech.You set it up adjusting to the height and level of your vehicle, then read the colors in the slot in the top. When they show the right colors as you are adjusting you are properly aimed. You can't see that difference from a beam on the wall, but it is a huge difference to oncoming cars at night.

I have considered LED lights for my Model As, among them, Logolites but because no seller could send them to me, I guess I'll use the slightly more expensive locally made ones. None the less, your report is useful. Thankyou.

I also have purchased the new Logo "focused" LED Lights. So far, I am very satisfied. The first time I drove with them at night I had them set a little low. I have now raised them up a little but have yet tried them again at night on a dark road.

I few years ago, I tried the earlier "non-focused" LED bulbs and I was never able to focus them properly and they were never as good as my 32/50 bulbs and good re-silvered reflectors.

I think I will like the new bulbs when I have a chance to try them at night on a dark road.

My experience and opinion.

I bought these a year ago and they are a great safety measure for touring! I previously never liked driving in the dark ,but these changed my thinking. Last year on a tour the driver in front of me said he could always see my headlights but none of the folks behing me.I also bought upgraded new reflectors when I changed the bulbs.

I like them! I only wish they would make them in 'warm-white' instead of the bluish-cold-white...

I agree, I don't care for the look of the bright white light, but some friends have them and they work fine. I do like that you don't have to focus them. Maybe Logolites will come out with some warm white lights. I am still running Ron Francis 75-125 CP bulbs with Bratton's reflectors and they give me all the light I need..

Agreed, a warmer light would be nice. I considered this before I ordered them. But then I realized that for the most part, I would only be running them at night. At night, people can hardly see the car anyway. All they are seeing is lights and a blurr go by. So for me, the color of the light makes little difference. In my book, the pluses of the focused beam LED bulbs far outweigh the minuses.

You mileage may vary.....
